Bali, my next destination is just about a two hours flight from Singapore. It is close to midnight when I get out of Denpasar airport to find a taxi. Even though we agreed on half of the price for driving me to Kuta, I guess it was still way too much. That is how you pay for your first lesson, "getting in touch with another country"...lesson learned: always bargain, bargain ;)
The place I stayed in Kuta wasnt really too fantastic, but I was lucky to find a bed just before midnight. Later I moved to a much better bungalow for half the price.
Kuta Beach is the place to be for surfing, for all the australian guys, for going out at night until late and of course for indonesian people who want to profit from tourism. Kuta is definitely not typical Indonesia..dont waste your days here if you dont surf...
Once I am here, I have to try that surfing-thing anyway. After a 1-2-3-standup-drill with the help from an instructor, I thought it couldnt be so difficult. We go to the sea, and Yeahh.. I can stand up and surf the wave - iiihaaaaa! The day after, I rent a board and try to surf by myself much less success full :(
The best way to get around the area is to hire a driver or rent a motorbike. The traffic is quite crazy and there seem to be no rouls on the streets. Therefore it is saver to have a driver, i rent a motorbike anyway. I am now part of the air pollution in Kuta? It is worth the experience anyway :)
