Departure today at 9.30am for Battambang the rice bowl of Cambodia
Visited Angkor Artisans on the way out is Siem Reap and saw some very skilful artists doing silk painting, wood carving, stone carving etc - high quality products. It is a coop training centre for rural young adults to give them a craft skill they can use to earn money back in their home villages to try and reduce the deruralization of Cambodia caused by young adults moving into the cities without work. High quality organization in every respect. V bought a pure silk hand woven table runner for home
Arrived in Battambang early afternoon then at 4.30 in the rain we went to the bamboo train - old flat wooden trays on bogey wheels driven by a "lawn mower engine" which are used to transport cut bamboo from the fields to a central point. Went on a short ride since too wet - great fun but the gaps between the rails?!?! no such thing as welded joints here
Dinner at Thy's friends place, great food lots of it and some fun karaoke
Last night with the group tonight so Mamama gave a short speech to our "family" of the last 4 weeks
Tomorrow on the bus all day getting from Battambang across the Cambodia / Thai border and onto Bangkok - about 8 hours on the bus
