Howdy everyone, ive had a busy few days, so this could be a monster entry!!
On thursday morning went for a long soak at Hanmer Hot Springs, was marvellous, so relaxing, but damn hot in the 42 degree pool!! After that we drove down to Christchurch to pick up some supplies before heading to the Banks Peninsula and Akaroa. After a few beers in Akaroa it was an early night ready for dolphin swimming on Friday morning.
Swimming with the dolphins was AMAZING, no other way to describe it, once we got over the immense cold when you first got into the ocean it was just fantastic,we swam with about 6 Hectors dolphins, they were swimming all around us and inbetween. The water was very murky so we couldnt see them when they went under us but that was the only slight drawback.
After a very welcome hot shower back at the wharf we grabbed some lunch and drove back, and what an beautiful drive it is, back towards Christchurch.
Next stop was Metheven, which is in the shadow of Mt Hutt, where I was to be snowboarding on saturday. Another early night was had, after Kelly arrived from Christchurch.
The weather on saturday was very promising in metheven, but was promised that the mountain was inbetween the 2 cloud layers. After a terrifying drive up a very steep gravel road we got up to the ski area, Mads went off to ski (he's pretty much an expert) and me and kelly waited for our snowboard lessons to begin. Well i have to say now that snowboarding is alot harder than skiing, and much more painful!! I managed quite well when going slowly, but very quickly ended up going straight downhill at speed, usually ending in a high speed crash, legs and board flying everywhere...carnage!
Well after a morning of pain me and mads headed back to the van for some well earned lunch, by this time the weather had started to come in and we made the decision to have a couple more runs then head back down while we could, in relative safety.
After a relaxed afternoon and a dinner of fish and chips we headed out for some Apres-ski at the blue pub in metheven. Met up with kelly and a couple of aussie guys we met on the slopes (Dax and Nathan) and a 2 swedish girls (Kat and Sarah). Was a damn good night, just full of laughs and many beers!Got some drunken photos which i will put up when i get a chance, for you all to have a laugh at.
This morning i woke up in lots of pain, was hungover and my whole body was aching from the snowboarding, so was quite good to sit down for a while as we drove here to Dunedin. We stopped at a few sights on the way down, the moreaki boulders and Shag Point being the highlights.
We headed straight for the worlds steepest street which is here in Dunedin, so we have drove up it, down it and walked it aswell, while making some amusing videos and photos, all will be posted as soon as i get a chance!
Tonight we are meeting up with a friend of mads and having an early night before driving along the coast road to Invercargill, which is meant to be stupendously beautiful, so looking forward to that.
Well thats about it for now, will update the photos and videos when i get the chance in a day or 2. Hope the weather has improved back home and you have all dried out!
Speak to you all soon!
