After a hilarious border crossing which took forever as both incoming and outgoing traffic were trying to get through 1 gate, many more hours spent waiting for the blockade of buses to move, a hike to a different bus that did move and then a fight for seats, we eventually arrived in Santa Elena at 9pm(left Costa Rica at 8am) and made a bee line for beers. We being Pat, Dennis, Neils, Tatum, Ian and Nina. The next day, fully recovered from the journey, we visited the Santa Elena cloudforest. Absolutley stunning and the perfect antidote to travel fatigue. The rainforest was full to the brim of life, epiphites and bromeoliads and countless other types of plants i don´t knowthe name of, grew on every branch and twing and tree. insects and butterflies and birds whizzed around us. it was a green peaceful heaven.
Our next activity was very different, ziplining above the forest along cables 770ft long, 150m high and at speeds of about 80mph. Exhilarating! And very very scary for me (fear of heights), loved it in the end though. Seeing the forest from above and the view from that high up was unforgettable. Also went on a sky trek, across suspension bridges over the forest, we spotted monkeys, millions of butterflies and a quetzal (we like to think).
The love affair with rum continued, with much Flor de Cana consumed by all.
