Yesterday we passed from the land of good roads and good, polite driving into the land of farm tracks (and thats just the motorways!) and driving like wacky races - please no references to Dick Dastardly and Mutley or there'll be trouble! Yes, we are in Spain. We have another minor problem, neither of us speak ANY Spanish....... anyway, enough of the problems the place we chose to stay is absolutely gorgeous. We are camped on a 1,000 pitch site which would be an absolute nigtmare except we are on the "after thought" pitches at the back of the sight. Our pitch is spacious, we only have 3 neighbours and we back onto an estuary - it is beautiful and quiet :-)
We seem to have picked a weekend when there is something on in the centre of the town that we are near (imagine a classy holiday resort in the UK (struggling?) add Mediteranean sun and culture and you've probably got a really confused image in your mind..... but it's nice). Today we chilled, ate and went for a little pootle around on the bikes to find our way about. The countryside is a lot like the UK, it's very green rolling countryside (bigger hills than home though) - it's so nice we think that we're going to head back here at some point just to tour Northern Spain and Portugal - there is LOTS of walking and mountain biking to be had :-) so we need more time (oh yeah, I hear you cry!) :-D
Last night we returned from a very nice seafood paella on the local plaza to some fireworks to compare with Bingley bonfires - they shouldn't have........ :-) Perhaps they knew we were coming? Did one of you lot let the cat out of the bag?
We found a cool sounding campsite in the mountains about 4 hours drive from here but we are going to have to miss it this time (it says 4x4's required to access - path not for the faint hearted! COOL) Anyway - thats obviously one for the next blog.
We are heading to the Pyrenees next for a few days - I'm aming to climb the Col D'Aspin while we are there (hope I can do it :-) Claire will be tracking my progress in the car).
Right, thats enough for now, I need to upload some more photos.
Bye for now
Ian and Claire
