Currently we are in Shepparton, which is 2 hrs north of melbourne in proper farming counrty, working our bums off picking pears!! Its not too bad - We're staying on the farm in fairly basic (!) accomodation (to those who know think of the hut oh webb family!), getting up at 5.45am to go out picking from 6.30am (when it eventually gets light enough to see the bloody fruit!) til around 4.00pm, or whenever we finish our 5 boxes, each of which is the size of a small skip!! There are a few perks, driving a tractor each day and the free accomodation, but its probably the hardest work that either of us have done in a while!! Our fellow workers, aside the Italian/Australian farmers wer working for, are 2 couples, one from guernsey, and the others a Yorkshire girl and her Australian boyfriend, so it could be worse!! Generally having fun though, and earning a bit of money along the way!
