Helen's Travels
I left Jo'burg to go on a 10 day tour to the Victoria Falls and through Botswana stopping at Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta.
We got into Zambia after a number of painful border crossings, and set up camp for the next couple of days. The next morning a couple of us went on a microlight flight over the Victoria Falls. This was our first glimps of the falls and it was amazing, you could see the mist rising from miles away and I've never seen so many rainbows. The air is definitely the way to see the falls, they were just immense, the view was breathtaking! We flew over the falls twice and then back up the Zambezi where we saw a family of hippos - just topped off the flight nicely!
After our flight, we had a number of other activities we could do. We decided to do the flying fox, which as you'll see on the pictures is a zip wire across the gorge, and you just run and jump in a superman pose!! It was cool but felt a tad tame!! In a cpmplete moment of madness, Rachel and I decided that we'd do a tandem gorge swing after the flying fox. This was actually so scary, we were strapped together and just had to lean backwards. Before we knew it we were plummeting 50 meters before we went into the swing! It was cool though, we were definitely on a high when we got back to solid ground - well worth doing!!
The next day at Livingston we walked to the Victoria Falls, the first time we saw them from the land. They were pretty full so it was really good time to see them - it was so hard to believe that the Zambia side of the falls actually dry up completely once a year! After a number of pictures we ventured closer to the falls. We were stood a good 150 meters from them but the spray was crazy - we got completely drenched to the skin! If you guys ever get chance, go to the Vic Falls - I just can't describe how amazing they were and the photos seriously don't do them justice!
After that we were on our way out of Zambia back to Botswana but first of all we crossed the Zambezi so we could step into Zimbabwe and have our photos taken under the sign!!
