Helen's Travels
I flew into Australia from Jo'burg and waited a few hours before I met Jenny at the airport. We only had two days in Sydney so it was a matter of packing things in....
We woke up early and walked to the Opera House and Bridge. We ventured across the bridge and up one of the pylons to get a better view of Sydney. We got a ferry back across the harbour and then walked to Macqueries point and to Mrs Macqueries Chair to see the "best view in Sydney", and went on a wander to Darling Harbour where there were loads of street performers to keep us entertained.
That afternoon, we climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge. After a lot of training, including how to climb a ladder we were off on our way up. We started the climb just after the sun had set so we got the best of both world, we saw the view over the city in the light and then saw the full moon come up behind the opera house. The climb starts on the east arch and then you cross the middle of the bridge which is 134 meters high before decending the western arch. It was well worth doing, the view was amazing.
After our fun filled day we went out for the night into Kings Cross in Sydney. We were still out until the early hours, and one of the guys that we were with gave us the idea of seeing sunrise on Bondi Beach, so we all left the club at 5 on a mad dash across Sydney to get to the beach in time. We sat on Bondi freezing for what seemed like hours before the sun actually rose. The plan was to spend the day on the beach from then onwards, but it was absolutely freezing so we headed back to the hostel for a couple of hours of much needed sleep before spending the day sunbathing in the botanic gardens.
