these last 2 days we have spent in Koyasan, it wasa buddhist monastery founded 1200years ago. At the top of Mount Koya, it was the first site allowed to be turned into a buddhist monastery by the government. we ended up walking 8km yesterday as we went up to see the views and carried on walking ending up over a mountain and at the other side of the village. good fun especially as there are bears. Stayed in a temple had v interesting food meant to be the local delicacy but not to our tastes. lovely building, a proper temple. Had a big hot spring in it which was so relaxing after walking lots. slept on a tiny fouton on the floor with the best hot water bottle. We were up at 5 am this morning to see the sunrise. but just missed it. Lovely and fresh morning. went to prayers this morning. it was a great experience. Saw the largest buddhist cemetary today which was really eerie. It has over 200,000 graves in it. Got the cable car back down, a normal train cant make it up, then the mountain train back to Osaka. Off out tonight to a Kareoke Bar i thinks.
