Hi Guys,
Well I have been in Santiago for a few days now and it is really a great city, it reminds me very much of Madrid and Berlin with a few added extra european cities thrown in, it has something for everyone. The flight from Peru to here was amazing, I had my own two seats with my own tv and remote control, which turned into a games consol if I wish to play!
It has been strange getting used to sleeping in a hostel again after having my own room for the last couple of weeks. Everyone is really nice and friendly and we all watched the Chile vs Columbia football game together. The first couple of days I have been getting my bearings in the city and been wandering around looking at the building, plazas which are really good to people watch and the parks, there are loads here and they are all really nice! There is alot of money in this city!
I went on a wine tour on Wednesday to Concha y Torro, its the largest export of Chilean wine to anywhere in the world and I have had it a few times at home, it was really good to see were it was made, although I was a little bit tipsy after having my first drink at 10.30 in the morning!! The valley were it is made is really nice. Our tour guide was really funny, he was a really big beafy guy but all he talked about was going to the Madonna and Kylie concerts he was crazy about them!
Yesterday I went to the Zoo although it was really sad to see all the animals they looked so bored, I have been spoilt in seeing them in their natural habitats were they are really playful. Although I didnt realise Pete had a twin in the Zoo in Santiago! Hee hee the gorilla was really funny kept on carrying a pink hand bag around with him! Then I went up to the big hill via the funicular which was a trundling little cart that went up the side of the mountain! At the top of the mountain was a statue of jesus overlooking the city. The views of the city were really good, it was a quite clear day, as usually they suffer with alot of smog.
Last night we were all told to stay in the hostel as there was riots in the city, in the day all the businesses and restaurants were bordering up the windows in preparation. Apparently it had something to do with the history of the city when the army storm it and overthrew parliament, I think this was in the 1800s but not sure, but every year they have riots in the city as people are protesting and they say it all gets nasty so we sat in and ordered pizza instead!
Anyway, planning on exploring more of the city today, apparently they have the biggest shopping mall in South America so it would be rude not to visit it! Hee Hee! I fly to Australia tomorrow, my flight is in the night and after 18hrs will finally arrive in Sydney at 7.00am on Monday morning, I think I loose a day in there somewhere but so excited about going, Pete and I will meet at the airport, there is half an hour between our flights landing so its going to be great, we then fly to Cairns to pick up the campervan for our adventure.
Anyway hope you are all ok.
Love Me x
