After adding my sign I decided to reverse my route a little which may give me a shot at returning home via Colorado but the weather will be the deciding factor.
Skagway is almost a landlocked piece of real estate except for a wild ride through the mountains. I can't believe those gold miners walked over them with 2000 lbs of gear, minimum!
The ride into Skagway was spectacular except maybe for the weather. It has started getting wet and cold but thats what I had expected. The town of Skagway itself is a bit of a let down. I was looking for something a little more historical but it has been turned into a big tourist trap for the cruise ships. Four ships were in port when I got there and you could hardlly move with all the people. But by the time I found a room and got settled in most of the ship traffic had cleared out and I started my search for the best halibut and chips in Alaska with a few Alaskan Ambers to wash it all down.
Bought some $10 bearclaws (pastry not the animal parts) and found a great little dirt road with a view. I also found the grave of old Bert Meeker in a little ghost town outside Skagway, makes you wonder dont it?
My new name for this trip;
God is great (or substitute another name for whatever created this world)
Beer is good (just because)
People are crazy (I started thinking this back in Nevada, now I'm convinced!)
