Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Temp: 24.7 degC; humidity: 87% Despite the beds being harder than rock we both slept pretty well; may have had something to do with the beers?! We have a choice of two distances to ride today - 67 or 93km. We get to make the final decision after lunch so stay tuned. Breakfast was at 7am and consisted of eggs, noodles, fried potatoes, corn flakes, toast, fresh fruit and tea/coffee. We left on the bikes at 8am. Our first drink stop was at the peak of a bridge with spectacular views, after 15km. The second was at a roadside restaurant just before the second bridge, at about the 30km mark. The third after about 45km was under a lovely rotunda just off the road, and the toilets were proper flush ones! And, lunch was, yes you got it, at the 60km mark at a lovely beach side restaurant at Green Bay, or maybe that was the name of the restaurant? After lunch we backtracked about 1km to visit the Mangrove area where they are trying to preserve the mangroves and indeed are planting more. It was at this point we all needed to decide whether to ride on or jump in the bus and go directly to the hotel. Everyone except Dorothy decided to keep riding. The temperature had increased but it was not a terribly strenuous ride at all. We stopped after about 19km for a bit of R&R - rest and refreshments, and then it was only 16km to the hotel. This included a rather mad dash through the traffic in Chanthaburi. We arrived at the hotel, ManeeChan Resort, about 4pm, checked in, unpacked, did some washing and hit the pool. The hotel is quite flash and we have a very salubrious room - #205. We were picked up at 7pm for a short drive to the Chant horn Restaurant which was quite flash, very different to the local ones we have been to previously. We got to order our own meals this time and Greg had chili crab with fried noodles and Wendy had fried rice with chicken. On the way back to the hotel we went via the Catholic Church which, was rather large. Tomorrow, we leave Thailand and enter Cambodia. Apparently the border crossing can take some time if not handled appropriately; time will reveal all.
