Hello all,
A slightly postdated blog for the last day of the cruise….I have a bit of time to kill whilst I'm sat waiting in San Francisco airport for my bag to catch up…will explain later!
So the last day of the cruise was spent at sea, and since I was still on my tanning mission, and the weather was just as good as the day before, I headed straight to the pool. At 9.30am, even the adult pool was already full and no sunbeds left….and not a German accent in sight either….just plain wrong. So I parked myself on the edge of the pool and there I stayed until 3pm. I was pretty pleased which what must be a marathon equivalent in the tanning world. Even more impressive was that the only part of me that burnt was a tiny tiny patch on my forehead! (Mum, you'd have been proud at the amount of sun tan lotion I got through!)
In the afternoon, the entertainment kicked in with some adult pool games, hosted by the English "Pikey" I mentioned before. The games were amusing to watch from my little patch, but the funniest moment had to be when the two guys running it got pushed in the pool fully clothed….and apparently it was "Laundry Day" for them….hahaha.
Feeling sufficiently tanned for one day, and having eaten one slice of pizza too many, I decided to go for a run on the jogging deck. Now, I loved my runs around the River Thames back in London, but this beat it….hence I'm writing about it. The jogging deck was a third of a mile, and was in four sections - two outside which were down the sides of the boat that looked out onto the vast, empty ocean, and the other two at the stern and stem which were indoor, one went through the engine room, and the other through where the anchor was kept. This was such a nice run, with both the views and the breeze….I managed 7.5 laps, after which I spent 30 minutes trying to look less like a radish sat in my cabin watching Sleeping Beauty. Only at Disney….
Time then for the last Broadway-style show, and unfortunately the name escapes me, but they really saved the best for last! This show apparently won an award for the best show in the cruise industry and it was easy to see why. The props, staging, costumes etc were really Broadway quality. (I attempted to take a few pics, but again they don't come out too well without the flash). This show essentially went through all the big Disney numbers in a story to do with something wishy-washy about following your dreams, but its worth going on the cruise to see it.
Between the show and my last dinner, I ended up accidently becoming part of a Disney Tunes Quiz….and if you know me you'll know I wasn't too averse to taking part! I didn't manage to stay until the end though as it was time for dinner (but I'm pretty confident those pesky little kids wouldn't have beaten me! Oh no.) Dinner tonight was at Triton's, and was based on French Cuisine. As ever, the food was great, although there was far too much of it. (I don't want to know how many points I've had on this boat!)
After dinner, I headed to Route 66, checked on the rays scores and watched in on a couple of games, but about midnight I had to hit the sack, ready for the early morning debarkation.
If you have a flight the next day, as I did, Disney take your bag from you the night before and check you in, so all you have to do is turn up the next morning at the airport and go straight through security. This is great….in theory…
I get to Orlando Airport in plenty of time, and check a few emails, look round the shops etc etc. About an hour before the flight is scheduled to depart I head to the gate, and notice the sky is turning a nice shade of grey before it starts raining…heavily….lovely weather for flying in. So needless to say we were delayed in taking off. This was my first flight of two on my trip to San Francisco as I had to change in Charlotte, NC. I had an hour connection time, and with an hour delay….you do the maths. (Or "math" to you Americans!) I arrive at Charlotte, 10 mins after the SF flight should have left, but lucky point #1 is that the SF is 20 mins delayed and still boarding, and lucky point #2 is the gate Is literally next door to the one I arrived at! I must now hold the Guinness World Record for the fastest ever connection, about 34 seconds by my timing!
I check that my bag will be ok, and am assured my two people "oh it'll be just fine"….hmmm. Well we get out on the runway and lightning is near so we can't go anyway. Lightning then comes a lot closer, and eventually we are clear to go. I was sat next to Michael (hello! I know you're reading this!) and we managed to kill 5 hours quite easily gassing away! On arrival at SF airport, my bag is nowhere to be seen….I'd had a hunch. Thanks to the delay though the flight that followed us from Charlotte was only 20mins behind us, so hoping that my bag would be on this one, I decided to stay put and wait to see. This is now in real-time.I am sat at SF airport, looking at the bags coming out from the next flight….and I don't see mine. L I may need to go shopping tomorrow….
Everyone who reads this, please keep your fingers crossed I am reunited with my bag! I've had a very long day travelling and I want my PJs!!
