Back Dreckly
I love Queenstown!
Sat at the computer in a really lovely, friendly backpacker's called 'The Last Resort' in Queenstown at the mo. It's the morning after the night before so I'm feeling a little ropey but I thought I'd write to update you all.
Saturday in Christchurch was a really brilliant day. My uncle took me, Jen and her boyfriend Hadleigh to his friend for a trip in his jet boat. We wizzed up the river at high speed, skimming passed the rocks in the water and doing 360 degree turns. It was utterly brilliant. I could have stayed in that boat all day. Then in the afternoon I went to an international cricket match. I still have absolutely no idea about cricket but I had lots of drinks and the atmosphere was great! We managed to watch to the end (when New Zealand won) and then wobbled back home after a feast in a chinese restaurant (I thought of you Graham!).
I booked up a coach to Queenstown on Monday and here I am now. I don't want to leave! I arrived Monday afternoon and had a wonder round the shops - I could spend a fortune here - and booked up a trip for the following day on Milford Sound. What an amazing place! I can honestly say that on my trip to and on the Milford Sound I saw the most jawdropping scenery of my life. Huge, huge mountains with numerous waterfalls cascading down them, mirror lakes reflecting the amazing scenery and a boat trip that took me along the Milford Sound and out to sea. Completely mesmorising. What you've seen in The Lord of the Rings is what it is like everywhere here.
Yesterday, being the extreme sports capital of the world, I decided I'd better do something a bit crazy. This place is wasted on me because I'm scared of heights! I could have booked one of many bungy jumps or a skydive or canyon swing, but there was no way I'd be able to go through with it. So I went white water rafting. Absolutely brilliant! I'm really tempted to book another already! Had a really great afternoon and wasn't scared once! Half way down the river I got to see a bungy jump from a bridge. It did look absolutely brilliant but there's still no way I'd do it! We also passed a part of the river where the 'Valley of the Kings' (is it valley of the kings? Can't quite remember now) was filmed in Lord of the Rings. Apparently people go on the rafting just so they can say they've been through that part of the river. I can't even remember the name of it now!
I went out last night with a new found friend called Matt (just a friend Tone - he knows all about you!) and we ended up in an 'Ice Bar'. The whole place is made of ice - even down to the glasses we drank from! We were given coats and boots to wear and had ourselves a cocktail in subzero temperatures. Brilliant!
So here I am now. Thursday morning and contemplating what I might do today. Just up the road from the hostel is a gondola that takes you up to a fantastic view of the town. I think I'll do that today. Jen may have tickets to watch the rugby in Christchurch on Saturday so I may have to go back tomorrow, but if that falls through then I'm going to stay here longer, although I'm spending so much money I probably would be wise to go back sooner rather than later!
Lots of love to everyone. Having a great time but still looking forward to coming home and seeing you all.
