Currently in Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays - some beautiful Islands that are the height of paradise. But I can't really afford paradise right now, so I'm appriciating the beauty from the mainland!
After leaving Agnes Waters we stopped in Rockhampton (on a bus that broke down and a 3 hour journey took double that... arriving at 4am) I don't have a lot to tell you about Rockhampton, primarily because we stayed about 30mins east in a town called Emu Park. Lovely hostel, almost a hotel. However, nothing to do for miles. After that we went to Mackay - arriving at the convienient hour of 5am. Thank god I wasn't alone! Waited in the chilly street for a cafe to open and then followed a relaxing few days exploring the area.
It has to be said. There isn't a lot on the east coast of Australia. I knew this before I came. But I didn't want to believe it. If you don't really love beaches - and I don't, then small towns lose their shine fairly quickly. We're hoping to get up to Cairnes fairly soon then hire a car to visit Cape Tribulation and see what that has to offer...
Plans of visiting the centre for the big rock have been quashed as it will cost the equivalant of a month in Asia for a 3 day venture! Boo. Shame, but I guess it is an excuse to come back and see the west coast, I hear that hear it has more to offer if you are not 18-21 and travelling with your entire wardrobe!
Ah well, there is a beach calling my name right now (kidding...) - gotta go. Oh and I will try and put some more photos up soon. Promise... Much love xx
