Siem Reap, Cambodia
Koh Tao is a very nice island in Thailand. Our first beach stop on the trip. The Bungalows on stilts we stayed at meet the ocean in the morning, while in the afternoon the tide goes out and gives a great spot to sun tan. Snorkelling around the large rocks that jut out of the water is very good place to see lots of fish, and at sunset we had a chance to see an extremely large school of fish swim right by.
The dive company we chose dive in small groups making the experience more pleasureable. Chumphon Pinnacle is the best dive site to visit around the island. We saw 7 bull sharks circling the area (and maybe us) lots of fish and a good amount of coral. On the 45 minute boat ride back to Koh Tao the waves got the better of me and I got sick in a squat toilet on board. The Japanese Gardens dive site is another notable spot. Diving only a few meters to see the wonderful sheltered coral and vibrant fish.
While diving we changed bungalows which was cheaper. The bungalows face each other along a long and very green walkway. A British group of girls were robbed in their sleep after a night of partying and forgetting to lock the door.
Lots of lounge bars and restaurants line the beach at Mae Hadd like in the picture above. Goregeous views and candlelit fish dinners sitting on cushions at low tables and enjoying the music is a great way to spend an evening.
Getting there and away:
We took a night ferry to Koh Tao - which was less than enjoyable with a cramped sleeping area of 30 or so people. During the night large waves awoke many and created sea sickness in one girl that didn't leave to expel. Thanks to a set of bracelets that help with pressure points I was able to keep my dinner down.
