Katherine- Katherine is 6 months old and been at CONIN since the end of February (so a month or so). Her parents are long time alcoholics and cocaine users. Her mom did both during her pregnancy as well as while she was breast feeding. For this, Katherine has limited control of her legs and hands. Her legs are always moving. When she brings her hands together they shake as they come closer and when one opens the other closes. We spend a lot of time getting her to grab different toys with both hands. Because she has only been at CONIN for a short time, she is actually still having cocaine withdrawal symptoms. She will scream in crib, but she doesn't produce tears. She actually gets really mad because her body is going through withdrawals. She is also super itty-bitty from the drugs. She weighs only about 12 pounds. She is nicknamed la chica flaca y loca (skinny, crazy girl). Most of the ladies at CONIN told me that it would be difficult for her to go back with her parents because they have been alcoholics for a long time. So I am planning on adopting her. :) :) :)
