We finally landed at Havana airport, and went to immigration. We all chuckled at the issue we had for the visas. While we were in a line at the immigration one official went by me and had a good look, he went to another person and said something, next thing I knew both men came up to me and asked for my passport. Then they went away - meantime Tangey and Claire were chuckling to themselves. After a while one of the officials came back and started asking where i was from etc, I think he thought I was a Cuban exile or something. He was ok when I said I was born in Sri Lanka. Think The Cuban question will be asked a few times whilst i am here.
Currency Exchange
At the airport people change the currency for the Cuban currency. The queues get very long and the bank where it is located is in a small area of the airport, people rush around confused, while the others just hang around. Just be prepared to be patient.
Hostal Jennylourdes
After we collected our bags we went out side and saw Magel who either works or lives at Jenny's was there to greet us. That was a relief as we didn't know if we were going to meet anyone there. We exchanged money and got to the taxi that was going to take us to the hostel. The taxi was a 1054 dodge classic, with a lot wear and tear, broken windows and smelt of dames. But, the driver was very proud of the car.
We got to the hostel and meet Jenny. Lovely old lady very loud and very excited to see us. She was worried about my name and she went on about it - unfortunately, I couldn't understand Spanish and she couldn't understand English.
Once we dropped our gear we went to a resultant where Magual recommended to us, our first taste of Cuban food. Unfortunately, the term vegetarian don't think exist in Cuban cuisine. Claire is going to find it hard. After the food we decided to stay in as we were knocked, we did have a couple of missed calls asking if we are out and about from Sheena.
