Chicago 10th June 2017-12th June 2017
Well here we go again on our annual trip to the states
The flights are not bad and the fact we had to change in Detroit for our connecting flight to Chicago wasn't anywhere near as bad as we thought,
On landing we get the shuttle bus to the Budget car rental desk and after waiting in a lengthy queue we pick up,our car,the drive to our first hotel in Rosemont Illinois sees us do our usual and go in the wrong direction and find ourselves at the wrong Best Western but after being given the correct route we set off and find our hotel for three next 2 nights The Best Western O'hara,Rosemont,Illinois.
It's not a bad hotel and we go to uor room on the ground floor and sort ourselves out and go to Shoeless Joe's Bar and Grill for dinner,it's a typical American Sports bar with TVs everywhere and a huge bar with every drink you can imagine,
Jackie has the blackened Tilapia wrap and I have the Fish and Chips which is all very nice and we wash it all down with a few beers,
Tired we return to our room and are soon asleep
Sunday 11th June 2017
We wake up early as is the norm for our first night in the States and go for breakfast at about 6.30 a but are informed that it doesn't open until 7 o clock so we venture outside to lovely temperatures and completely clear blue skies,
Breakfast is the usual hotel fare with scrambled eggs, sausages, cereals, cakes and fruit which is perfectly adequate.
The complimentary shuttle bus telescope us to O'hare airpor t and the CTA train station after paying the $10 fare for a one day ticket we get the blue line train th Washington stop and walk the 3 blocks to Millenium park where the Chicago blues festival is going on this weekend,
The temperature is ok at the moment and luckily there is plenty of shade
The park is lovwith some rubber sculptures dotted around and various stages set up throughout the place,we take a walk through the park and across to Lake Michigan,
The temperature has now risen to 93 degrees, way too hot but the shade brings a much needed relief from the blazing sunshine we explore the park further and take photos of the Bean and the stunning view of the city of Chicago after taking in liquids we settle down in the Mississippi Juke Joint stage and watch a woman called JJ Thanes, who has a cracking voice,it all gets way too hot for us s we have a walk into Downtownand along the river walk which gives stunning views of the city,
We start to overheat so go in a place called Millers pub which we went in when we were here 3 years ago and have beer,Margarita, and a Bloody Mary once back in the heat we have trouble finding the blue line Cta train so when we eventually do we decide to return to Rosemont And eat at the same place as last night,
The train journey is about an hour and a quarter so is good value, the shuttle bus takes us back to the hotel where after sorting ourselves out we return to Shoeless Joes bar and grill for dinner,Jackie has a veggie burger and I have a cheeseburger which are both good and also we have the chicken soup and a few beers
It's been a great day although it's been a bit too hot and looks as though it will stay like that for most of our trip
