Hannah's Great Adventure
Hello All
So after leaving Bangkok Abs and I traveled down to the 'Trang Islands'. Once in Trang we got a ferry over to Koh Mook. Koh Mook is the most beautiful place I have ever seen, with powdery white sand and crystal clear blue water. The beach was deserted, but due to the utter beauty of the place the beach bungalows were rather expensive. So we stayed in the cheapest accommodation we could find, which was a dilapidated old beach hut, complete with a live in toad, a gigantic spider and an extended family of bed-bugs!! We woke up looking like we had chicken pots - not a nice sight when wearing nothing more than a bikini! Abs and I hired a Kayak to explore the 'Emerald Cave' - a cave that opens onto a secluded beach, only accessible though a pitch black tunnel (you can't even see a hand in front of your face), Abs shat herself and I rammed us into the wall. But it was worth it, just like a scene from 'The Beach'.
After the hustle and bustle of Bangkok the 'Island life was bliss', but we knew we'd get fed up pretty soon, and we did, so we headed up the coast to a busier island, Koh Lanta. After spending a couple of days there we continued up the coast to Krabi, where we stayed in Ao Nang, a beach of the mainland. My first impression wasn't great (it has a mc Donald's) but it really grew on me.
Whilst in Ao Nang I treated myself to a 'Discover Scuba Diving' 1 day course. It was so much fun! The instructor was a cool Scottish dude called Dennis Duncan. We went on two, hour long dives. I saw some amazing fish and the coral was breathtaking. On the way back in the boat we also saw some dolphins - it was amazing!
Mum arrived later that week and I knew she would hate it in Ao Nang, so as soon as she arrived her and I left Abby and headed to Koh Jum. We stayed there for 3 nights, I think mum enjoyed herself. Getting there was an adventure in itself - water taxi, ferry, and then long tail boat - I had my camera poised as I was sure she was going to fall in!
We returned to Ao Nang unable to find Abby, to later discover she had been rudely awoken the previous night by a cockroach - on the arm, looking her in the eye. Abs on a good day can just about handle the common woodlice so you can imagine her horror. In the middle of the night she had packed her things and found another, cockroach free, room. The following day Mum suggested going to see a temple, so off we went to the Tiger Cave. 1,200 steps later we arrived at the top of a huge hill to discover a giant Budda! I nearly had a hernia on the way up but it was worth it.
The last few days have been spent on Koh Samui (by now you have probably gathered that 'Koh' means 'Island'). Nadia and Logs came over to join us for a night out on the tiles. We had a fantastic weekend, although most of it was spent in our 'air-conditioned' room recovering from too many buckets of 'rocket-fuel' (a whole bottle of Thai whiskey, topped up with coke).
We arrived back in Bangkok at 6am this morning, after the most uncomfortable 14 hour coach journey. Tomorrow we head up to Chang Mai in the north of Thailand, where we hope to go on a 3day trek into the jungle (don't worry Grandma).
Hope you all well
Love Hannah xxx
