G'day, How ya goin'?!
Last time we updated this thing we were somewhere around Brisbane i think... anyway had two days in the city doing city things like going to the cinema and eating at nice restaurants.
Then we arrived in Noosa where we spent six nights at a fairly small chilled out hostel, (well it was chilled until G put his hand in a metal ceiling fan and had to go to A&E - all fine now though!) Oh and an encounter with what we thought was a poisonous cane toad but turned out to be a harmless tree frog. Spent a few days on the lovely beach and also visited Australia zoo home of the (late) crocodile hunter steve irwin. Was an awesome day and bloody hot!
Then spent a night further up the coast at Rainbow beach where we got to try our hands at Boomerang (dangerous) and the didgeridoo, neither of us getting much further than blowing a rather embarassing raspberry...
Then up to Hervey Bay for a night where we stayed at the friendly hostel, so friendly in fact that we had teddies on our beds!
From there we had a 6 hour journey to the town of Agnes water/1770. Dropped off by the bus in the middle of bush nowhere we got a shuttle bus in to the town amid 30+ temperatures. Arrived at our hostel and were shown to our "double" room which was actually in the same room as the dorm with a curious half wall partition thing and sharing the one fan....
Eventually found some accomodation where breathing was actually possible. Luckily some holiday apartments only 200m from the beach were available. Feeling a little bit like "flashpackers" we spent the next four days enjoying the air con, own bathroom and kitchen. Was our last chance to swim on the beach before going north and into "stinger" territory.
Yesterday we drove 3 hours inland to kroombit cattle station. Spent the evening practising the lasso, and even roping some goats in the "goat rodeo". Had some lovely steak and roast beef for tea with actual real gravy and vegetables!
Today was an 8 hour trip to Airlie beach, crossing the tropic of capricorn into the tropical Northern climate. A long trip made worse by the fact that there has been heavy rain here for the last couple of days and there is widespread flooding (in Australia. In summer. grrrrr!) So what was meant to be an overnight stop here is looking like it may be a few days until they get the buses back on the roads.
Will keep you posted, bye for now love
