Arrived at Surit Thani on the night train then caught the bus to get the ferry to Ko Samui arrived about 12pm then got a taxi to our resort Silver Beach. Lovely private beach like paradise, accomodation is ok but we only have a fan no Air con so it is roasting at night in our room! And no TV - not that we need it out here as there is so much beautiful scenery. We sat on the beach this afternoon and then went on to Chaweng which is the main strip about 10 mins taxi drive away. Met a couple of girls Laura (dutch) and Savrine (french) both spoke french and english though. We went to a lovely seafood restaurant with them i had red snapper nice but not as good as Jamaica and Mat had Steak to he was happy. Had a walk around and looked at the shops then found a english bar called the Cambridge Arms and had some cocktails in there with the girls.

Went on a day trip today to see the temples which were beautiful they are so detailed all of the paintwork is amazing. Then went to the Ko Samui Viewpoint where you can see all of the coastline, we also went to see the mumified monk. We went to the monkey show next which was good but felt sorry for the monkeys beacuse they were all chained up but was great to hold the monkey, one of the monkeys tried to steal Savines nose stud which was quite funny she had a cheaky personality. Then we had some fresh coconut milk which was really refreshing - not like i imagined. Then the best bit was the elephant trekking the elephants are so lovely. Not sure if they are treated well they hit them with a stick with metal claw on the end but i am not an expert so don't know if it is cruel it doesn't seem to hurt them their skin is sooo tough. The guide was really good and took photos of us on the elephants head. (wanted £4 for doing it though!) And he did wash her down after the trek to cool her down. We then went to the waterfall which was lush really cool and out of the heat for about half an hour. We went back to the elephant place and they do a show with a baby elephant which was 5yrs old felt really bad for watching and taking photos though i thought it was really unkind. I don't think she was treated badly they did look like they really cared for the animals but i surpose because there is nothing like this in england and it is seen to be really cruel this was my instinct and i felt really sorry for the animals. Everyone gave loads of money after the show so hopefully they make enough to look after them properly. We saw another monkey show he was a naughty one as well and wouldn't do as he was told so didn't want to go and get the coconut out of the tree! Then onto the crocodile show which was mental the zookeepers were putting their hands and heads in the crocs mouth!! Laura had to leave she couldn't stand the fact that they might actually get eaten! We had some more lovely thai food one soup dish was a bit spicy for us but the rest was lovely - i had the seafood and mat had the veg! Perfect! Did a bit of shopping and bought a bat and ball and a lilo. One of the bats broke within 5mins and the lilo stays up for about 10mins! But its all good! Then went into Chaweng again so Mat could watch the qualifying but no-one showed it as the footy was on so he was gutted!

Stayed on the beach for most of the day today got a bit burnt as the suntan lotion i brought is crap so we are all patchy!!! Went out to Chaweng with a few people we met this evening. 2 english girls Michelle and Francesca a Spanish girl Clara and 2 german blokes Martin and Chris. We had a really cheap but good thai meal down a back alley (we are thinking this is the way forward as we need to start looking after our pennies!) Then we went to the Cambridge Arms again for Mat to watch the Grande Prix and ended up in a bar / club called the green mango got really drunk - hangover tomorrow!

Another day chilling on the beach! Went out to Chaweng tonight had dinner in a proper local (cheap!) restaurant / shack was only 40bht per meal though and was nice! Thai food is really cheap if you know where to look. We made the mistake of staying on the main strip and paying 200 - 500bht per meal! As long as you don't mind eating in a place which doesn't look all that you actually get really good traditional thai food. Then went onto the bars and spent most of the night in the green mango club which is open until 3am. Then Mat had some english sausage and chips and curry sauce which he said were delicious! Ended up getting back about 4.30am so chill out day again tomorrow i think!
