Siem Reap, Cambodia
So right now we are Cambodia on our second full day in Siem Reap. We flew into Thailand safe and sound and got a metered taxi to our hotel and got ripped off straight away (only by $1.50 hopefully we won't be needing that later in our travels). Once we got to our hotel we met with our group to do the Indochina Unplugged Tour, which was a good decision on Hayley's part as we have met a load of people who have been here for ages and have given us a lot of information on what to do and where to go, and of course how not to be ripped off! on friday we met the group at 7 to go from thailand to cambodia. the trip to the border was pretty uneventful and we had a very snazzy party bus with fun coloured lights! however, once we crossed to border it was a different story. we switched buses and had a really old one that didn't have enough proper seats once all our luggage where on and me and hayley were unfortunate to be the last ones on so had the pull down kindof stools in the middle of the isle. and the road was awful, it was not much more than a dirt track with loads of pot holes. we got to siem reap at about 6 and took a much needed shower before dinner. The room is a lot nicer than we were expecting. Saturday we went to the temples which were all amazing. we started off at the temple where they filmed tomb raider, ta prohm. it is really unique because they haven't clearedmuch of it and there are 400 year old trees growing out of the roof! then we went to angkor wat, which is the biggest religious structure in the world. it is amazing and i can't really describe it in words, you will need to look up photos but i doubt it will do it justice. then we went to bayon which is the temple of the smiling buddas. after that we went to a temple which people think was built by women and is made out of pink limestone unlike the other temples in the area. on the way back we stopped at the landmine museum which was really upsetting. we also stopped at a temple where we were supposed to watch the sunset but although it had been a beautiful day (i have a nice farmers tan!) the clouds had come over. at night we went for dinner at restaurant where angelina jolie ate (wooh hoo) then went to angkor what? bar. the most interesting part of the night was when our tour guide took us to a night club which was quite an experience. this morning is free so we are going round the markets then going to a floating village this afternoon! don't know when we will have chance but we will update soon
