We were up at 7am today - the intrepid half of our group had already set off for a hard trek to the pinnacles. We chose to do the trek that was in our itinerary and follow the kerangas trail. This entailed a gentle half day walk through the jungle in search of the carnivorous pitcher plants that are only found in this area. The wilder part of our adventure started today. Our day packs laden with all our belongings needed for the next 2 days - including 3 litres of water each, so it got pretty heavy. Setting off in oxbow longboats we headed upriver stopping briefly at a local village, then on to some caves.
