He there!
This is becoming more of a monthy thing now. Sorry I havnt kept this updated as much as i should have been.
Last time i wrote here, i was in smelly Rotorua, eating free pizza, which they had no-where near enough for the number of people who turned up, but nevermind.
The next day i chilled out at the hostel, in the pool etc, and then the day after, i left for Aukland. The bus journey was quite a long one, but i think i slept most the way so it didnt matter!
I only stayed 1 night in Aukland, as I went straight off to Pahia, which is the main place to go and see the Bay of Islands. It was beautiful there. Clear waters, and brilliant sunshine. It was so nice! On my first full day there I jumped on a tour bus, early in the morning, and went off to the northern most point of New Zealand, known as Cape Reinga. There we went for a swim in the Pacific Ocean, and then the Tasman Sea, within an hour, which was cool. Also we got to try our hand at Sand-Boarding on sadn dunes! It was a stuggle to get up the dune, and it reminded me of when i climbed Mt. Doom on the tongariro crossing, just it didnt take as long. But the best bit was going down the sand dune. It was more body boarding, rather than snow boarding, which is what i previously thought sand boarding was, but nevertheless it was great fun! Most people only had 2 goes, as you had to climb back up the hill. But me being me, i decided to have one more go, but this time i took a running leap from the top, and absolutely flew down the dune! It was by far my best run, and at the bottom there was a shallow river, which you skidded across when you reached the bottom, (if you made it that far, which some people didnt!!!) and i skidded the furthest out of anyone that had gone. I got a round of applause for it! :)
After the Dune-ing, we drove along 90 mile beach, which is actually only 60 miles long, but they didnt seem to care. We got dropped off back to Pahia, where the next day i went on a leisure cruise on a catamaran, and we explored some of the islands in the Bay of Islands. It was a nice day, with swimming, kyaking, and donut-ing / ringo-ing (Sitting on an inflatable ring whilst being towed behind a boat). I did get a little sunburnt though, but nevermind, it turned in to a tan a couple of days later!
After chilling out in Pahia for a couple of more days, I travelled back to Aukland, chilling again for a few more days, going up the sky tower, and going on a free tour around the city. Other than that there wasnt much to do. I tried to investigate about fixing my camera which i broke on the tongariro crossing, but i couldnt find a place that dealt with samsung cameras (!!!???).
After a couple of days, it came to the day i flew out of New Zealand. I enjoyed my time there, and will remember all the good times, and the good friends i made there, who i will probably meet up with back in the UK in the summer (Hopefully!!!)
After some retail therapy in the Tax Free shops, for a new digital camera and some last minute souvenirs, i flew to Melbourne. Ive been quite surprised actually that on the flights, (Quantas at least) they tend to have movies that have only just been released in the cinemas, as on the flight over i watched "The Wrestler" which at the time was a very newly released movie. As there were no head rest monitors, everyone had to watch the same thing, and we watched "Marley and Me" which too had only been released in the cinemas very recently. Well i find it interesting! :P
Anywho, i got in to Melbourne in the late evening, and by the time i had booked a hostel for the night (Yes, i didnt have anywhere booked before i arrived! How exciting! ;P ) it had gone dark, and it was slightly difficult to find my way around the public transport to St Kilda, where my hostel was. Im sure the receptionist was getting annoyed at the number of times i called to book a dorm, then to get directions and instructions to what tram to use, then where to go after i arrived in St Kilda, but he was still very nice to me.
And im going to leave it there for now, and pick this up again when im in Brisbane, which is tomorrow.
As i booked my Fraser Island and Whitsundays stuff through the travel company attached to my hostel in Byron Bay, ive been given a free meal voucher at the local backpacker bar "Cheeky Monkeys", which i intend to use!
Cyer soon!!!
