Hi guys
Hope you are all well.
We have just got back from a weekend of camping with Matt and Louise in Victoria, on Vancouver Island.
It was a beautiful hour and a half Ferry ride, then about an hours drive either side.
We found our camp site and struggled to put our tents up as it was very stoney and all we had was a big rock, no hammer. We now have lots of bent pegs.
The campsite is nice, we have our own gravel area with a picnic bench and a round metal fire pit with a grill on top.
We planned to get dinner and visit Victoria and explore. It was dry and sunny at this point, hence the BBQ.
We brought some wood from a local store for our fire pit but the logs were too large so we had to cut it down to kinderling wood. Grahams hands looks like he has had a fight with the pen knife. They are covered in plasters.
Then came the rain......
We eventually got the fire alight and hot enough, after about an hour. We cooked the usual burgers and sausages, which where worth the wait, as we were by now very hungry. Followed by marsh mallows and chocolate bananas ...........mmmm!
We had to use the toilets before they closed at 11pm until seven the following morning! Lindsey was not happy about this. The main gates closed too!
The rain did not stop all night and through until Sunday morning. We had to put our tents down in the rain - yuk! We had a lovely cup of English tea huddled under a tree. One thing we have learnt is that our tent leaks so we need to invest in another one before we make our camping trip down through America!
We went to look at a local water fall in the rain which was good. After a terrifying moment with the windscreen wiper of Lou and Matt's car - it fell off in the heavy rain whilst we were on the freeway! We managed to fix it thou with Lindsey's gaffa tape (she has everything in her bag, which is why it is so heavy!) and a little bit of ingenuity! Then we went back to Victoria where we had a nice big breakfast (more food!).
We then went to the Natural History museum and the sun came out...
It was really worth a look, we were greeted by a life size mammoth. There was loads to see, read and learn about- it was really interactive. We got to see a life like example of a mammoth tooth and the tooth of a prehistoric megadalon shark (about three times the size of a Great White shark of today!!! Scary).
We are all ok now that we are dry and back in Vancouver. Back to a nice dry bed...well sofa bed but that is five star accomodation for us.
We have now booked a car from Portland, which is a large town south of Seattle.
It is about an eight hour journey from Vancouver by train or bus.
So our last day in Vancouver is tomorrow (Monday 13th September).
Not sure what we have planned. Going for a run first thing with Louise? We will see how the weather is.
Then go from there, we leave here on Tuesday.
Got to get some sleep now.
Speak soon

Pat Hello you 2! At last I get around to reading your news - sounds like a brilliant adventure and I'm so pleased for you both. Here at WO the blackberries are still good and the sunshine is fabulous but you won't be missing out on the usual gloomy darkness which sets in once the clocks go back at the end of October. I reckon you'll become very adept at living out of a rucksack before long! Bye for now!
