The morning started with a quality baguette from ABC. Got talked into buying my first pair of sunnies off the street (70,000 dong) from a guy that wouldn't give up once he saw I was the smallest bit interested. Lessons learnt - try before you buy (lenses are foggy so pretty much worthless) and Unless you're sure you want what someone is selling, say no straight up, unless your prepared to have them around for a while.
Today was the day for a tour to the Cu Chi tunnels (tunnels the Vietnamese used during their war). Tour guide Minh was very knowledgable on everything HoChi Minh, Cu Chi Tunnels, Life and happiness. Top advice he gave was to smile and be happy right now with what we have, as one day, like he has, we will look back on our youth and wish we had. The tunnels were small, vast and intricate. Hard to imagine they crawled through them for years. Anna and I both tried our luck at making it from one point to another using them. I had to take the first exit I could use, as I didn't think I could get much further, while Anna's nimble steps took her to the very end on the tunnel. The traps they used to kill U.S soldiers were hard to look at, as most of them resulted in several metal spikes ending up in some part of the body.
We returned to the area where we were staying and had lunch.
Later that afternoon we stumbled across a local park while walking around the city. Vietnamese boys, girls, women and men were running, walking, dancing, meditating, playing soccer and basketball. There was even even adventure equipment, which we took advantage of. Seeing all this in the middle of such a busy city was refreshing!
In conclusion I must say that I feel I've learnt and come such a long way in just two days of being here. I will never again look like such an easy target to those enthused cyclo riders.
