Glenn's Travels
So, after only 11 days in New Zealand, I'm back where I started - Auckland. I left Wellington at 7pm last night and after many delays and stops and a horrible night with very little sleep, lying in the weirdest positions that even a contortionist would be proud of, I finally arrived at about 7 this morning. Instead of hanging round the city and doing nothing, I was straight onto the next shuttle bus to the airport so I could do nothing there instead. I did manage to catch a bit of sleep before having to check in though (after a 4 hour wait). During this time, however, I thought I'd lost my wallet, which contained a tiny bit of cash, my ATM card, my student ID and my driver's license. Never one to panic, I wasn't too upset, but checked with the police, the many different information points and airport operations to see if my wallet had been handed in. No joy. So that left me in not a fantastic mood after the horrible journey. So, you can imagine my joy when I found 45 minutes later. Where, you may ask? Yes, obviously, in my rucksack. At the very top at that. For this, however, I take no responsibility. I have no recollection of actually placing the wallet into the rucksack (why would I do that?) so it's obvious that some pickpocket has taken the wallet out of my pocket, found out the combination code to my rucksack (very smart, these thieves), inserted the wallet after finding nothing too interesting, and left, all without me knowing. Shocking, I know. Anyway, after that it was about time to check in, and I was feeling marginally better. As they say, the early bird catches the worm, and I was a very early bird, as always. And the worm in question was an upgrade to business class. Now, before you get too excited, I did have to pay for it (not a lot though), which isn't exactly the same as getting it free, but I don't care. Business class is great. I'm in the Qantas lounge at the minute, using free internet. I've just had an awesome shower and am about to get stuck in to all the free food on offer. I could even phone home if I wanted (although you're probably all asleep right now, so I better not). This is the life - and I haven't even gotten on the plane yet! They just announced that my flight is delayed, but do you really care when you're in the lap of luxury? I certainly don't. Not bad for a backpacker, eh?
