Finally made it to Altai after an epic 3 day run from Khovd at an average speed of 10mph. Tried to find famous hot springs on route, which were not hot and had dried out! There was one flat left over crest corner where george managed to hit a very large rock, he blames the pace notes, we think he should have gone to specsavers! With the sumpguard bent we were stuck in 4th gear, no chance of carring on at 2000m above sea level with the polo's asthmatic 'power' plant, so the sumpguard was removed and strapped to the roof. With all four gears available again we carried on in 1st to the 'campsite'.
The Panda was not without its problems either! The n/s front shock exploded, which was not a problem unless the car was moving when it became almost uncontrolable. Attempted to "drive through" the problem which resulted in a couple of big jumps and an exploded rear tyre and another rim donated to the Gobi. John managed to limp the beast the last 200miles to Altai and is now trying to find someone who can tame her!
Found ourselves a nice hotel in altai where we shall stay for the next two days in the hope that ash and george can regain control of their insides, and wash their ankles!!!
