Felt sad to leave Dolmiti Campsite at Cortina. Said my goodbyes and paid the bill. €167 for 13 nights.
Beautiful journey via Diabucco to Austria. No border formalities but noticed immediately that fuel was much cheaper. I filled up later at €138 per litre whereas around Cortina the cheapest was €173. Also the little garage shop was even cheaper than Italy.
It felt more comfortable knowing that I could communicate and understand the signs. Still managed to go wrong though.stopped for a healthy picnic of salad and prawns in Tristach. Saw a sign for camping so I went to have a look. Well, it was on the very touristy lake and so busy. Out of curiosity I asked how much it would cost, I stopped him adding up any more when he reached €28. Decided to drive on but had problem with say nav as wouldn't recognise the town of Heiligen Blut (Holy Blood).
Back in Lienz again the helpful girl in the tourist office gave me some maps and ideas. I still went in the wrong direction and had to retrace my route.
The roads are so much better.
It was nearly 6pm and I was becoming concerned about where to camp when I saw the word camping written on the roof of a farmhouse.
Perfect. Small friendly and Peter thoughtfully placed me with the tenters. My neighbours are very friendly and keen hikers with lots of tips.
