"Year of Fun"
OK everyone so sorry this has taken so long to write we know we're very behind so we're gonna try and catch up now!!!
So we arrived in Koh Phangan after a very delayed boat journey all tired and very hungry, arrived at our only pre booked accomodation for the whole trip and they had given our room away so we werent too happy!! Nevertheless, once we finally got our room it was worth the wait and the climb (it was a bit of a hike up a hill!) and our really cute bungalow had a great view over Had Rin Beach complete with monkeys climbing around the trees outside!! That night however I (kate) got the stomach bug hay and tan had had already and was up most of the night being sick!! The others were up most of the night as well as the music from mushroom mountain was so loud!! The next day we went to the beach and looked around the town after an unsuccessful search trying to hire a jeep so that we could explore the island! In the evening we headed out to the many bars on the beach for the pre-new year parties which were really fun and not too overcrowded!! The next day was fairly similar although we all felt a little worse for wear and the weather wasn't as nice as the previous day! On new years eve we bought some UV paints and painted some designs on each other whilst getting ready to head to Had Rin Beach, we got down to the beach and it was crazy there were sooo many people and there was a massive clock counting down the new year, luckily we didnt lose each other as never would have found each other again!! However it was a fun night although i think we all agreed the nights leading up to new year were better as by the end of the night the beach was totally ruined with bottles everywhere!! The next day Lorn surfaced earlier than the rest of us and went down to book our boat off the island as we had to leave pretty quick as our Thai Visa was about to expire. When we all eventually got up the weather was pretty bad and the beach pretty choppy so we had a fairly quiet night and headed to mushroom mountain that evening for a few drinks. The next day we left to get the boat and the weather was still pretty bad, after ANOTHER delay waiting for the boat we knew we were in for a choppy ride as they handed out sick bags and travel sickness pills even before we had left!! Also the captain kept telling us there were "BIG waves" which didnt help lol!! The journey was about 4 hours to Chumphon with a drop off first in Koh Tao and i think we were all ready to ditch the boat at Koh Tao as the experience was so scary, the boat felt like it was about to capsize as massive waves crashed over it!! Lorna and I were really sea-sick as were alot of people on the boat! But.....after we found out we couldnt then catch another boat for days we stuck it out but i think we all agreed it was the worst journey yet!! Once we arrived at Chumphon and were safely back on terra firma we caught an overnight coach to Bangkok, athough we arrived at about 3am, then we went straight to the train station to catch a train to the Cambodian border (AranyaPrathet). The upside to this was the train cost 50 baht each (1 pound) for a five hour journey! The downside was that we were sitting on the most uncomfortable wooden benches the whole way although for that price you cant really complain!! Once we arrived at the border we had to haggle for a minibus to take us to Siem Reap which was about a 6 hour journey, our driver was really sweet and told us about his experiences living through the Khymer Rouge and he had lost quite a few members of his family which was really sad. He also picked up a Cambodian family en-route who were also really sweet. Once we finally arrived in Siem Reap it was quite late and although we were taken to a guesthouse we looked around ourselves and found one that was a little more central which was on the river............- comments
