G'day from Australia!
We've been here for 3 1/2 weeks now and have travelled hundreeddds of miles already from our starting destination in Cairns! But all is well here.
So far we've snorkelled in the Great Barrier Reef which was fun (although a rather sicky affair for me!) This is Georgia writing btw. But it was still an amazing experience seeing the coral and the fishhhys.. katherine saw neemo! i sadly was hurling overboard and didnt get to see him- BAD TIMES!
We've been to Fraser Island- which is the largest sand island in the entire world, which was absolutely AMAZING. It had been absolutely tipping it down with rain the entire week before we were due to go, so we reallly weren't looking forward to it (bearing in mind its an island so being outside in the pouring rain for 2 days would not have been fun) BUT after heaps of prayer, we turned up on Fraser and THE SUN CAME OUT for the entire time that we were there- How good is that?! We had such a good time, a really good group, AMAZING food (roast dinner/cooked breakfast) and just a hell of a lot of fun. We went "swimming" in clear water, so one of our life time amibitions were completed! Fraser has been the highlight of our trip so far it was soooo good i can't even express how good it was!
We didn't manage to do the Whitsundays due to sea sickness issues, but we still had a good time in Airlie beach in the sun by the lagoon... in aussie they have these lagoons pretty much everywhere and they are so nice to laze by on a sunny day :)
The weather hasn't been great to be honest, but we dont mind it being a tad chilly as long as its not raining... somedays its sunny, someday its rain... it's pretty much england (and we're the ones with the awful rep for our weather- seriously australia's isn't all its cracked up to be!) your having better weather back home than we are!
We're currently in Brisbane staying with some family friends of mine, which is so good to be in a family and to have a house! Sebs been our personal tour guide and taken us around the city. Where we've seen the Botanic gardens (and whilst we were there a guy had been stabbed in the toilets- seb just strolled on by wanting to go to the toilet- leaving me and kat to be shunned by the poilce as we hadn't realised what was going on!) scary stuff... but we just went and had an ice cream instead.
Seen some crazy animals- they have weirdo birds here. Absolute scavangers with stupidly long beaks that come and try and steal all your food/bags/ ANYTHING you leave out!
Went to a realllllly cool crocodile farm place up in Innisvale where a guy was feeding crocs 2 metres away from us- with the gate wide open! it was really cool but also super scary at the same time. We also got to hold crocs (which had their mouths sellotaped shut) , feed and pet the kangaroos, have some bird sit on you (it kept eating my scarf- the little pest!) hold dingos (wild dogs) i naturally declined but Katherine was loving it, so much that she almost dropped hers! So that was a really good day out and only cost us 14 bucks! so 7 quiiiiiid - BARGAIN!
We're travelling down on the Oz experience, which has turned out to be reallly really good ( i reccomend to all having a gap yr) have had some hilarious drivers with the names of Uncle Buck, Sonic, Squirtle (you get the idea) who have taken us to some one of a kind places... last week sometime we were taken to Kroombit cattle station, where we learnt to crack whips, ride mechanical bulls (we didnt do that because they were being really mean and doing it really fast as soon as you got on it so you immediately fell off and got unnecessary bruises!) and then we went horse riding to muster the goats which was really cool and did a goat rodeo, which was pretty jokes as you had to drag a goat by its horns round a goat pen which is full of poo, we were all wearing flip flops so you can imagine the fun everyone had with that!
Met some really cool people since being here, who have been on the Oz bus with us, so in each place we've had people to hang out with which has been good. Went river Kayaking the other day in a place called Noosa which was good fun, but very tiring, i had to be towed back by a guy called Aaron cos my arms were hurting! Then Katherine got out of her Kayak and it was floating off down the river...so her boat had to be rescued by him too.. we cause all sorts of faff!
We were meant to go to Australia zoo when we were in Noosa, but being dipsticks, we missed the bus which left at 10 past 8 and we woke up at 8 so we obviusly didnt make that. But Tristan is going to take us to the zoo this coming Thursday from here so we dont miss out! We want to hold Koalas (it is our only reason why we're going)
Got another 3 weeks left here so done half our time already- craaaaaazyy! And having realised we're city girls rather than beach girls, we're excited about going to Syndey and Melbourne. Apparently there is an amazing cake shop in Sydney, so we're excited about going there... you can get all sorts of cup cakes according to a girl we met who worked there! Going to try and go to the Sydney Opera House for Dews birthday, so hopefully something good is on.
We'll try and update again in a couple of weeks (internet is so expensive here that its hard to update the blog!)
Love and miss you all lots!
Georgia and Katherine
