Today we had booked the Pearl Harbour and US Missouri excursion. We had to be up quite early and meet up at 8.30am - we met our guide Michael and boarded the coach for Pearl Harbour and US Missouri. After entering the Pearl Harbour site we picked up our audio headsets - the tour was narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis whose father Tony Curtis had served in the US armed forces. We listened to part of the tour and we then boarded a small craft which took us out to US Arizona which lay at the bottom of Pearl Harbour after being bombed by the Japanese - the 900 servicemen who died are still in Pearl Harbour aboard the ship. We got off the boat and went on to the memorial site - we could still see parts of the US Arizona under the sea - this was a very poignant place. We saw the memorial which lists all of the people who died on the ship. After our visit we got on another coach which took us to the US Missouri - a US battle ship. We went aboard for a walking tour - it was very good but so very very hot! The whole tour took over 6 hours and when we got back to the Carnival Miracle we headed for the first bar we could find that was open and ordered to cold draft buds! Delish!
The ship deli was open so we had a burger (our first for this cruise!) and went back to the cabin to freshen up.
We decided as the ship was not sailing until 11pm to get a taxi to Waikiki beach - as we got off the ship and went towards the taxi rank another couple said they were going to Waikiki and would we like to share the taxi - we said yes and hopped in! We got chatting and discovered they were from Tampa in Florida.
We arrived at Waikiki and went on to the beach - another WOW! Amazing - I couldn't believe I was actually standing there.
Took loads of pictures and watched the sun go down - fantastic! Another place I think I would love to return to.
