Arrived in Phnom Penn, Cambodias capital and its a lot bigger than Siem Reap. We got a 7 hour bus journey, who rooked us cause we bought our ticket for 10 dollars off a ticket office and got told the bus was express and never stopped on route and had a toilet. Did it hell have a toilet and it stopped around 10 times within 1st bluddy hour picking up people waving money from side of road!! Anyways it was lucky neither me or karen needed the toilet. We met this german guy who lives in thailand now and a couple from Chile on the bus so we went to stay at same hotel as german guy and met up for dinner at night which was interesting and good. I think we are staying in the red light district because there is 'ladies' everywhere at night time. Even with karen with me they are trying to get you in the bars with them. We went to one of the quieter looking bars to start off with and met an old glaswegian dude who was class!, an english boy and an american guy. There were at least 5 'ladies' in that bar but they never seemed to bother us, but there was only 5 of us drinking but the english boy must have already had arrangements with one of them cause she was with him most of the night! Karen went to bed early cause she was tired but i stayed out for a couple more cause it was the pub next door to our hotel. Pretty much as soon as karen had left one of the 'ladies' was straight up and sat beside me! Waste no time there love! But luckily the american guy can speak cambodian and told her (or him, me and karen still have the jury out on that one) the crack.
So next morning me and karen headed off to see the killing fields and the S21 Genocidal prison camps. f***!! I am interested in all war stuff and like to learn about stuff like this but this was sick! We were at the killing fields 1st and it showed what happened and why and then there was a big room with all the skulls and bones of the people they had exumed from the mass graves made by the khemer rouge. There had been an attempt to purify the country by Pol Pot, leader of comunist party khemer rouge. To do this he killed an estimated 3 million people out of what was around a 8 million population at the time. Crazy, From the killing fields we went to S21 and that was worse. Innocent people tortured to confess to imaginary crimes. Seeing the cells they used to be in and the intruments they used was sick too. The Khemer rouge even kept photos and records of everyone that went through the concentration camp and even took photos of when they were dead. And yes, you do get shown these photos and all the ways thay got tortured! Me and karen didnt really speak for much of the hour afterwards as we both felt kinda ill after seeing so much suffering. But even with this it is a must see. It is their history. They want people to see this so they can try to prevent things like that happening again. The scarier thing about it was that it only happened 30 years ago!!! So after our depressing day we headed back to riverside to get some beef lok lak with is a bluddy good cambodian dish! YUM YUM!!
Oue last day me and karen has a chill out day round the markets and some resterunts and bars. Karen got a massage and thought it was crap! the massage parlour has a bed matress on floor to give her the massage! class! So we went back to the bar from previous night to consume beers for 1 dollar to get us sleepy for our night bus back to Siem Reap. It worked cause i slept like a baby!!
