Bisbane is the third largest city in Australia and the capital of Queensland.
It was only a very short journey from Gold Coast to reach Brisbane. I thought Brisbane was the most aesthetically pleasing city we had seen in Australia with each building bringing its own unique style to the city. The city also had wide straight roads that let you see for a lot further down each road and gave some pedestrian only streets that were really popukar and full of market stalls which gave the feeling of being in Covent Garden. The city had several parks and another large square like that of Melbourne called King George Square.
What made this city stand out more than anything else was the 'City Beach' on Southbank where a free, manmade, communal beach/swimming pool was located. Since this city wasn't right on the coast unlike nearly all big Australian cities they had built their own beach right near to the river with fountains, children play areas, sand and deep swimming places as well. It was a sight to behold especially with all the purpose planted flowers and trees that gave the inner city area the feeling of being in a jungle. Like Perth there was a free city bus but also a free ferry that took you to different places along the shoreline. Unfortuneatley it wasn't made very clear to us that there was one free ferry and one you had to pay for so we ended up crossing the river for a hefty amount of money considering it would've been a 10 minute walk.
Like all Australian cities there was a Chinatown and the parks were full of bats and apparently possums if you offered them fruit. We had to stay in 2 seperate hostels over the weekend as a musuc festival was being held just outside the city on the weekend we were there amd so the prices hiked up in some hostels. There wasn't a huge amount of things to see or do in Brisbane but I liked the city nonetheless.
A lot of travelers in the 2 hostels we stayed in were using Brisbane as a stop over point to then go onto the barrier reef and Fraser island tours but unfortuneatley these were quite expensive and we couldn't afford to go with them and so we got a flight back to Sydney.
