G'day Mates!! We are finally in Sydney. The past few days have been quite hectic. In Byron Bay we spent the second day going to Cape Byron Bay and the most Easterly Point in Oz. The Views were pretty spectacular and the climb was also. We thought we were dying at the end!! That evening we ate fish and chips and the best burger ever on the beach watching sunset which was really nice especially as the surfers keep going until it gets dark. We did have a bit of a shock when we returned to the campsite as about 100metres away from us we heard an almighty car crash. Obviously everyone went to see what it was but I stayed at the camper. I was glad i did as I got to see the man that crashed run into the bush infront of me. The damage he had done luckily just to his own car was pretty horrific so i am suprised he could run. However when the police eventually found him in the inconspicuous shaking bush he stumbled out saying he didnt know anything about crashing a car. He was absolutely hammered and could not walk in a straight line. We are so glad that no one was in the way when he crashed - Idiot. Anyway the next day we decided to start the drive south to Sydney. We spent the next day driving and stopping occasionally to stretch our legs. That night however we were a bit naughty and we drove through a national park on an unsealed roat which we arent allowed to do in our camper. But the camping was cheap so we did it anyway.
So we pulled up to Hat Head National Park and went to the camping area. It was really cool as loads of kangaroos were hopping around the site. We decided to walk to the beach over a little sandy mound. Well we were not ewxpecting the view we got over the mound. It was a huge and spectacular sand dune that stretched right to the sea and was absolutely amazing as we were the only ones there! We were awestruck. Brilliant.
We woke up quite early to get driving and drove past the best pie shop in Australia. Although it was only 8.30 in the morning, we stopped and got a pie for brekkie. I had Lamb and Mint and G had meat bacon and cheese. They were the best pies we have ever had and we demolished them feeling slightly guilty about eating pie for brekkie. However it seemed to be the norm at this shop as trucks of people kept stopping for the same indulgence. The rest of the day we just drove, until we stopped in the Belmont district of Newcastle. Newcastle was pretty rank but Belmont was lovely, it was a small town on the edge of Lake Macquarie. This lake is 4 and a half times the size of Sydney Harbour and was beautiful. We stopped at a nice camp site and went to sunbathe by the lake. There were loads of huge pelicans on the lake too. The weather for the past few days has been awesome. 30degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
So today we have arrived in Sydney. All of the campsites are quite far from the city so we have to train it in but it isnt too far. This afternoon we climbed the tallest building in Sydney, Sydney Tower, for panoramic views. It was amazing because it has been such a clear day with no clouds at all. You could see for miles and miles. We wanted to walk over the harbour bridge, but it is waaaaay too expensive at $198 each. So we are going to settle for walking the path under it instead. We are going to do that tomorrow as well as do a sightseeing tour around the city. So far we prefer Brisbane as it is so busy here and at ground level isnt that nice to look at but we will see how it goes tomorrow. We are also going to try and upload photos tomorrow!!
