Good Morning Vietnam!
Ok so I'm sat here in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon, whatever, same same but different) with really itchy legs and feet and a possible trip to a doctor ahead of me. Good start hey, so i guess i better fill you in on what has been happening to get to this point.
When i last left this, i had just had my feet eaten by fish. Well next day, still in Cambodia at this point, we had a very early start to head up to Angkor Wat, Cambodia's most iconic temple. It even appears on their flag. We got there for sunrise and stayed for a long while that day, led by our tour guide Sonny. Fair play it was an interesting place, especially for me the echo room and the spider at the Tomb Raider Temple. Don't worry, there are plenty of videos and pictures of all of this. That night, wow, there is only one word to describe it, MESSY! It was Vicky's birthday and my how we celebrated. Not only was the booze flowing but Matt went for the full fish massage, good lad. Next day we left for Phnom Penh, with me suffering unsurprisingly.
Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. Here the main part was going to the killing fields, where Pol Pot's regime took many thousands of Cambodian's to be executed. During the day we also visited the S.21 prison where many people were kept at this time before being executed. The night time was more relaxed. We had a ride through town on these bike things that look like giant prams seeing all the sights before going out for dinner. We think we also saw the bridge where many Cambodian people died recently on this bike ride. So dinner was at this local house, with many families living there and they also had a school there. We sat and talked to the kids for a bit before enjoying our dinner and ending the meal with a shot which had been brewed with tarantulas, i kid you not.
Now the interesting part, Sihanoukville. This place has a beach. Which means its on the coast. You follow me? So i decide that i just want to go and run into the water but what an idiot I am of course. As im running, i stand on something on the beach and cut my foot wide open. Typical. I thought ah well, i cleaned it out later, put Savlon on it and a plaster and went on with my business. That night we go out agin, and i am really looking forward to going snorkeling the next day. Unfortunately i get really ill in the night and cant go. Gutted but im ok now and i will get over it.
So after spending a day in bed, the next day we head to Vietnam. We go to Chau Doc. This was a fun day. We went for a motorbike ride to the top of a mountain to watch the sunset sitting in a hammock drinking beer. This has probably been the most fun thing we have done so far. Amazing views, amazing ride and a lot of laughs on the way. That night we headed out for dinner where I ate frog for the first time and we rounded off the night with a friendly game of uno and some emperor game or something. So to Ho Chi Minh City where we are now.
Yesterday we just had a wander around, took in the sights. The market, the reunification hall, the post office and the cathedral. Then we had dinner where Bill Clinton once visited before heading out for another night. This was a good night, drinks in a couple of bars and rounded off with myself, Vicky, Sophie and Danceski having a bit of karaoke at a local karaoke bar. Early morning then today to go to the tunnels. This was interesting. We walked around the sights, looking at the tunnels, the traps, a tank and eventually going into a tunnel. I got out of that thing at the earliest point, i didnt feel comfortable with the width of it so i got out. I don't know how these people lived like that but i am very impressed.
So i am back at the hotel now after a little bit of lunch. My bites really itch and you may have guessed but maybe not, my cut looks infected. So tomorrow when we get to Nha Trang i planned to go see a doctor to see if he gives me anti-biotics. Apart from that all is going well, Claire's email was hilarious, I am having an amazing time and looking forward to the rest of it. I will be back again to let you all know whats going on and tell you all about my adventures.
See you soon guys
