Adventures of Gamblegirl: Via Brisvegas!!
Brisvegas: Derived from the city name Brisbane – located north of Australia in sunny Qld and borrowed from Los Vegas and it’s glitz and glamour.
Greetings and long time no update but really haven’t done anything to update. I know tsk tsk to me. My main reason to head up to Brisvegas was for my friend Tracy and to catch up with my other friend Jane – who I met during my travels. Ohh and to escapee this REALLY cold winter Melbourne’s having. If you are in Melbourne you’d know because it’s bitterly cold down here.
I think that last time I was in Brisvegas, I would have been about 10 or 12 years old, so memories are kinda vague. Then again my memories of last week are kinda vague – a goldfish I am. So was curious to see what the hype of Brisvegas was all about.
Don’t know what my impressions of Brisbane was going to be. I knew that it was located on a river and that “The Valley” was cool to hang out at – thanx Jane for that tip, but really that’s about it. Oh and it’s rapidly becoming famous for producing some half decent bands. The only impression that I had to Brisbane was that it was “developing”. Hmmm whatever that means – the internet travel guides were big on that term.
So my impression of Brisvegas – well I thought it would be smaller then what it is. Dunno why, but I did. In all the cities I’ve been too – have been to a few now – it’s kinda like a big country city that’s moving towards cosmopolitan. It’s quite young city and cosmopolitan wise which means that it’s quite funky and stylish. I liked it. Especially with the views of the city over the river. Very pretty.
My favourite place was the valley. It’s really cool. It has a sort of St Kilda / Fitzroy kinda feel. A bit arty and cool. Great bars there. My kinda thing – big comfy couches and great atmosphere. I liked the Press Club (I think that’s the name of it).
Another experience I had was EKKA. Matt Shinkel – one of my consultants at Department of Health - tipped me off about it and was curious to check it out. What the heck is EKKA? I hear you ask. It’s the Brisvegas version of the Melbourne show. Seeing that I haven’t been to the show since I was 12, it’s an interesting experience going as an adult. No show bags for me (although I wish that I’d got the Fireman’s calender d’oh!!) but did do a lot of wine tasting and food sampling – 3 hours of it. Walked out of the food and wine hall nice and merry. My main concern is the amount of mullets seen. Yes I know that mullets have made a comeback but these are like 1980’s mullets. Not good! And don’t get me started on the extreme tight jeans. Not pretty at all!!
Hmmm next time I think I’ll head down to somewhere like the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast but def a good weekend break for moi.
Hugs and kisses your neighbourhood freak.
PS. Have to share this with you as I heard it on the news the other day. Canadian men are receiving an all expenses paid trip to Albury / Wadonga worth $7,000 per each person. The drawback? Every second day they have to make a “deposit”. The Albury / Wadonga sperm back are so desperate for donors that they advertised in a Canadian paper offering to pay for all expenses. Nice work for some.
