We had an amazing day today, went to Miravalles, the volcano, the waterfalls and the mud baths.
Went on a private tour, was about an hour and a half drive, north of Liberia. Once at our destination, we all got on a cart pulled by a tractor and we went up into the rainforest, towards the waterfalls. The hike in was over hanging bridges, up to the first waterfall, it was absolutely amazing. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I think I've ever seen... We also saw a huge blue butterfly (Mariposa), but of course he didn't want to pose for a picture.
We had a typical Costa Rican lunch after we came down from the waterfalls - rice and beans, salad, plantains, chicken, beef or fish. It was delicious.
Then we walked to the "hot-springs", the volcano vents where all the steam and hot water seep out, and the sulphur smell - yuck ! First we sat in the sauna for a couple of minutes, all natural heat - and it was soooo hot. We were soaked in about 2 minutes. Then we got to play in the mud baths, that was fun, we smeared the hot mud all over ourselves, sat in the sun to dry it out and then showered the mud off. Then into one of the 3 pools they had there - one hot, one medium and one very cold. It was so much fun.
After changing we walked back to the van, but Alex got bitten by a Coati. He wasn't a nice little critter, he bit Alex on the leg, didn't draw blood, I think it shocked him more than anything. He's not showing any signs of being rabid :)
On the way back to the resort we stopped at a souvenir shop where Alex bought more coffee (I think he's up to 20 pounds now - just kidding) and we each found really nice T-Shirts!
Today was a lot of fun, looking forward to Sunday where we go to Monteverde - there's more hanging bridges, butterflies, hummingbirds, and much more.
