Hello everyone,
We got a bit distracted from updating this....sorry. Having an absolute ball though. Since our last update we had our final night in Barcelona which was sad. Was a great night though...we decided to go to the casino down by the beach (so that i could add to my casino card collection) and we ended up getting free champagne, beer and a cocktail. Was very exciting. Not only that we ended up watching some flamenco dancing there for FREE which is rare over here. Its usually like ?20 plus. So we were pretty excited. They were really good as well...pretty impressive. We stayed there for quite awhile and then a few too many drinks later we set off for another look around the area and at all of the cool boats in the marina. Great night for taking photos.
Then we got up bright and early to catch the train to Valencia. Wasnt as hard as we thought it was going to be trying to get the right train. Our terrible spanish of "eurail pass...un tren para valencia" actually worked. Was an awesome train too....one of the posh fast ones. We watched "Night in the museum" with ricky gervais, ben stiller, owen wilson etc" in catalan. Haha so funny. Great scenery too....oh so fun.
Valencia itself is sooo pretty and when we got off the train it was SOOO HOT. Yes we were very excited. Valencia Nord the station is pretty in itself so had to take some pictures there. Think that i am becoming obsessed with the camera....but its just so pretty everywhere u look.
It took us forever to find the hostel...we took a wrong turn at a vital street and ended up wayyy away from the hostel. Finally with the help of this nice young spanish man we ended up finding it. It was the same hostel company that we stayed in in Barcelona. It was in the perfect location...right next to the Plaza de la virgen. Hostel wasnt as good as barcelona though...much more squishy and hot. It said air-con but no way was it on. Still great location so cant complain too much. Oh except for these annoying germans that kept making soooo much noise in the middle of the night. And then they chose to get up LOUDLY at like 5am. Grrr...we did meet these 2 cool girls from melbourne though. Was nice chatting to them.
Hmm what did we do in valencia....we just walked around taking photos of all the important sights. Plaza de la reine or whatever its called. Great place.....would be nice to just sit there in the sun all day. Same with plaza de la virgen. We decided to splurge and have our first taste of spanish cuisine there too. Apparently valencia is the home of the paella so we had that on the terrace. Was soooooo good. Hmmmm they even had a lovely (unspanish really) vegetarian option. still eating it on the terrace looking at everyone taking photos by the water feature statue of the naked man there was really nice. There seems to be water fountains everywhere....works for me cos they are so pretty and good for photos.
The next day we got up early to try and catch an early train to Alicante. Had been warned that it was an ugly tacky touristy place....but we decided we wanted to see it all the same. Unfortunately we had our first dilemma of the day when they said the only train was at 1pm. So instead of sitting at the station for 5 hours we stored our luggage at the station (4.50 OMG rip off) and caught the metro and the tram to the nearest beach in valencia. Playa las arenas. That was an awesome beach...it had those little huts...looked kinda fijian if u ask me. We sat there soaking up the sun....we still cant work out if we are allowed to sit on the loungers that they put out. So if anyone knows...please tell us. We are thinking that u might have to pay for them because someone came around with tickets....so we made a quick getaway. This annoying woman kept coming around trying to massage us haha...no thanks. Great beach though....was sad to leave yet happy to be going to another beach in alicante.
Will add another post about the trip to aliante.
