So from San Pedro De Atacama we headed off on a 3 day 4wheeldrive tour through the Atacama Desert ending up in Uyuni, South Bolivia.
The 3 days were basically spent with 4 of us being driven around in a pretty ancient, but in good condition, Toyota by our only-Spanish-speaking driver transecting through the Atacama desert and stopping at many very different features the dryest desert in the world had to offer.
To sum up the stuff we saw and experienced:
1) Loads of beautiful and very different lagoons, that varied in colour, compositions and surrounding features
2) Thousands of the 3 types of Flamingoes up real close
3) Some of the most beautiful mountaneouss and varied landscape I have ever seen
4) Active volcanoes and recently solidified magma
5) Of course the largest salt flat in the world, Salar De Uyuni, which was spectacular
6) Experienced the most basic of accommodations that did very little to shield from the -10 celsius temperatures at night
It was a really awesome 3 days and great value at around 80 quid including everything, although our driver spoke no English between us we could decipher what he was saying. Oh also the food was excellent, hot and varied. The tour agency we went with was Estrella del Sur, highly recommending and delivered on all of their promises. Although our vehicle was old it had no problems at all and the driver was excellent.
