We really loved the road down the Blue ridge parkway the views were fantastic and there were very few other people and cars. We pottered down stopping all the time to relish the walks and the viewpoints. Finally we got to the end (550 miles) and reluctantly hit the main roads again. We loved Gettysburg a small town that thrives around the civil war memorials. The actual battle site is amazing and perfectly preserved. We walked around admiring the many memorials to all the different regiments who were fighting . The museum is very interesting and there is what is called a cyclorama which is an enormous circular painting which was completed in 1865 to commemorate the battle of Gettysburg and which is stunning in its scope. Leaving Sault St Marie we drove down the trans Canada highway. This was not particularly interesting at first but it did become so later . We stopped off in Sudbury and then found places off the road to stop. The road has very few stopping places and even all the rest stops are closed for the winter which seems rather mad !!!!! The snow was left behind quickly and we travelled along the I 90 at a gentle pace , enjoying the tranquil landscape and the neat tidy farmsteads. Yellowstone was fantastic and we were so glad that we made it as the park closed at 8 am on the Monday. We had 2 and a half days which was just enough to get right around and see most things. We saw Old Faithful spouting and we loved the red canyon area which was so colourful with its waterfalls and steep cliffs.
