Hello all, Its been a while and a very quick trip around the south island of New Zeland. It has been an incredible fee weeks. Some of the best!
We arrived in Christchurch, in the blazing sun. Their highest temperature in years, about 42 degrees. So that concluded why we were not feeling too good. But we made the most of the outdorrs but doing classic punting on the river avon and goping to the fudge factory. Its got such n english feel to it, its lovely. We spent a few night in a converted jail, that was cool. Bit creepy at times :)
It was then time to pick up our jucy campervan, we were so excited. Once we got it, we roared straight off, not having a map or a clue where we were. typical. So after sorting that out, we were well on our way around the South island. The first few days and nights included some wine tasting which was very posh. Paul happily told the lady that I would probable get drunk, I was so embarrassed! Then to Hamner springs, some outdoor thermal pools that were about 40 degrees hot, they made you feel dizzy. The freedom of the camper was great, doing exactly what we wanted and when.
Then to Nelson, the sunshine town that always has sunny days. I love the beach and we parked the camper for the night overlooking the sea. That was great. Most of the driving has included stunning views, always stopping every 10 mins for another photo. The Abel Tasman national park was a highlight. A 3 hour walk between to beautiful bays around the coast line. The weather did not look promising but turned out perfect.
Wen then made our way down to the Franz Joself glacier for a ice hike. We opted for the full day, where we get to reach fresh ice and cut out steps. Our guide was carving out our path, very impressive. It was surreal being up a glacier, aftert being on a beach the day before. Although it was exhausting, it was well worth it.
Since then, the best bit by far was our saty in Queenstown!! The adventure capital of NZ! I thought it would not be that pretty, but had a luvly bay and gardens and great shopping and restaurants. Not that we can afford either! Our best days was a sky dive in the morning, absolubtle out of this world. If any one has the cannce to do it...DO IT!! No way near as scary as we thought it wld be! In the evening we treated ourselves to a trip up the gondala to see Queenstwon by night from above with some traditional kiwi haka dancing and the best meal in our life! (sorry mum) But the dinner was so yummy!!
From queenstown we have slowed down a bit a relaxed more at a slower pace. A cruise around the milford sounds was stunning, after nearly running out of petrol to get there!! :( it was sooo close. been to some great beaches too.
Now it is on to Fiji tmrw. The have been some terrible floods there, but is safe now. So expecting some rain!! I will try and get some photos up asap!
lots of love from fran and paul xxxx
