So, first day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil... After arriving late last night and not sleeping too great, I got up early and headed to Sugar Loaf (see picture above). Managed to find the place and negotiate Portuguese on my own! However, from the dates I was in Rio the Sugar Loaf was only open half way. They only charged half price but even going up to the first cable cart stop gave you a great view of the city. I saw where the Portuguese first landed and I could just about make out Christ the Redeemer Stature but it was a bit misty. In the afternoon, we went up to the Statue with a guide from the hostel but it was pretty disappointing. The mist covered the whole view so you couldn´t see any of the city and even Christ himself at points. As it was friday, the hostel organised buses to the Lapa Street party. Oh dear, bit of a manic night. You wern´t advised to take any valuables because of people stealing stuff. One little boy stuck his hand in my pocket I turned around to see who it was and he just winked, little git. It was a fun night though and a lot of people from the hostel were out, which made me wish I´d had a bit longer at the hostel with them.
Day 2 20th June, still in Rio but was meeting up with the tour group. Woke up very late after arriving back at the hostel about 6. Missed check out time and was supposed to be charged move but luckily got away with it. Spent the day on Copacabana beach and then met up with the tour group and our leader Juan later.
