Sat 12th
We had a bit of a lie in today as we were tired from the tour. By the time we went out it was the afternoon and we got the free tourist shuttle bus to the Docklands stadium and Victoria harbour. We wandered around the area and then towards the centre looking for somewhere to have a late lunch. Then we went to the 360 deg observation deck at Rialto and up to the top. Here we could see all different views of the city and the boards in front of the windows said what you were looking at. We went shopping and then back to the hostel for a lovely meal of noodles! We chilled out in the room and chatted to another English girl who'd arrived.
Sun 13th
We get up earlier today as me, Becky and Robyn are going to visit the Old Melbourne Gaol. First of all we looked around the cell block and into many of the cells. There were 3 floors in the gaol and it was very old, we even saw the place they used to hang people! We spent some time wandering round and learnt about the people who used to be imprisoned there. We then went and had lunch as there was a bit of a wait before we could do the next part of the experience. After lunch we went to the Police watch house. This was a strange experience as we had to line up, girls on one side and guys on the other and then walk to the main bit and line up again. This time the Sergeant inspected out hands and mouths for "drugs" before locking all the women in one cell and men in another and turning off the lights! Then we went to the mens exercise yard and could then take photos before going through to the womens exercise yard and then having mugshots taken. Afterwards, me and Becky went to Parliament house where there was a wedding going on. We then strolled around Fitzroy gardens and saw Cooks Cottage (which had been moved there from England), conservatory, model Tudor village, etc. Our feet were really aching now so we went back to the hostel.
Mon 14th
I got up at 6:30 this morning and rang back home and spoke to Mum, Corinne and Nan, which was really nice! Then had some really tasty pancakes, yum! We had our Neighbours tour today which was really cheesy but good! Our tour guide was an Irish guy called Gerry, he was really funny and told us all about how they make the show and film the summer scenes in Winter! On the way we got to watch a classic episode! We went to Erinsborough High School and then to the studio where we got off for photos of Grease monkeys and Carpenters mechanics. Next we drove to "Ramsay Street" which is actually called something different, for many photos! Unfortunately, the actor we were supposed to meet couldn't come and the company made up so many excuses about why not. Went back to the hostel for lunch. After lunch, we got the tourist shuttle bus to Federation Square and chilled here for a while with an ice cream as it was a lovely sunny day! :) We then strolled back along the Yarra River.
Tues 15th
This morning we went to the Queen Victoria Market and looked around, we could have bought so many souveniers, but wouldnt wanna carry them around. In the afternoon we went swimming at the City Baths and used the spa, which was sooo nice, we didn't want to get out! After dinner, we had free cheese and wine at the hostel and then went to the Comics Lounge down the road. As we didn't have a reserved table, our seats were tagged on to the end of other peoples. It was really busy in there, the MC said it was like a saturday. There were 10 new comedians on stage, each doing a very short set as it was a competition. We then had to vote for our favourite. Most were good except for the ones that shouted, talked strangely or just weren't funny. While the votes were counted, 2 more well know comedians did a longer set each, which were funny. It was a good night, even though we didn't get some of the Aussie jokes!
Weds 16th
Today we got the tram to St Kilda and it was a really hot day, I think it reached 38 deg c! We had lunch and then headed to the beach. After a while I went for a swim, was so refreshing! We then went for a wander and later I got some ice cream, yum! Back on the beach it wasn't as hot anymore but still nice to relax on, I even went for another swim!
Love Fran....and Becky!
