As we hadn't been eating out last while we thought we would get some true Kyoto typical food. Looked for ages for a special restaurant which had just closed. :( So we ate next door. This is the dish called "typical Kyoto cuisine" and it wasn't a tourist place. These dishes were all cold. Fist one was like a corn like paste and mixed veg. We travelled around Kyoto last few days eating fresh fruit in our hostel for breakfast and snacks out at the temples. Saved our money for sites and bicycles. Fruit was totally delicious in Kyoto must say. Not my photo.

Kyoto yakiniku restaurant Simple ingredients that we could dip in a soy and a slightly spicy sauce and cook ourselves. Similar to teppanyaki but its simplier food, no chef (except us) and you don't really make a meal. It's like your own personal indoor BBQ. Nice when you're hungry and want food straight away as you can eat and cook as you go :)

Restaurant only had 24 covers. After each course we were presented with a v cool book called food foods (yes they love to repeat) which has every food you can think of. Apparently they used to bring out the veg. Maybe they still do at dinner. Can't really believe it has 3 stars. It was divine and very delicious but also rather simple. Perhaps again the more extravagant flare happens at dinner. Either way we felt so lucky to be there. A proper treat :)
