We had an early flight from Fiji (had to get up at 5!) which got us to Auckland about lunchtime. We had to wait hours to get through immigration as New Zealand are really strict and so didnt arrive at our hostel until late afternoon. It was right in the centre and we had a nice room on a floor especially for girls - they gave us white fluffy towels and hair products when we arrived! That evening we went for a walk to the harbour where there were lots of posh restaurants and explored the main shopping street. Picked up loads of info on what we could do while we were there and found some dinner before going back to the hostel for a fairly early night.

Today we had to do some planning on where we would be going next so decided to book our bus up to Paihia and the Bay of Islands for monday and get an extra night in Auckland. Spent the rest of the day seeing some of the sights - went up the Sky Tower and got brilliant views of the city - especially as it was a clear day. Had lunch up there looking out at the view 60 floors up! In the afternoon we looked around the Aotea market where there were lots of nice stalls selling all sorts and went for a walk in Albert Park which was really pretty. Later on we went out for dinner to an Italian restaurant overlooking Queens Street which was very nice.

Had a fairly quiet day today - our plans to go up to see one of the old volcanic cones didnt work as the buses didnt run on Sundays went on a different bus ride around the city ending up in Parnell (one of the suburbs). There were lots of gifty shops and nice cafes (we found one with yummy cakes!) there so we spent the afternoon looking around. Also saw some pretty churches and the cathedral. The evening was fairly quiet - mainy involved packing as we were leaving for the Bay of Islands early in the morning. Beginning to perfect the art of squishing everything in my rucksack!
