Hello everyone from Caye Caulker (Key Caw-ker) in Belize! We had an interesting four hour (supposed to be three hour) bus journey across the border from Mexico. The border crossing was fine and pretty quick which was cool. Once we arrived in mad-busy Belize City we then got a 45 minute boat journey to the Caye. Here it is a tiny island with lots of friendly people. The weather hasn't been great however and Belize is expensive. We also wanted to do the snorkeling up at lighthouse reef but as it is low season the trip we were booked onto didn't go ahead and it's too late to stay any longer here :(
We will have stayed here for three nights and tomorrow we will be heading to Guatemala for the last bits of our Central America adventure. So tomorrow will be a LONG day as will travelling in Guatemala by the looks of it. No longer on the air conditioned, quick, comfortable journeys of Mexico, but on the chicken buses of Belize and Guatemala (old American school buses- hot, crowded and sticky). Mexico definitely spoiled us when it came to transport! So the trip carries on tomorrow with an hour trip back to Belize City and from there a lovely eight hour bus journey from there to Flores, Guatemala where we will be going to see the Tikal ruins.
Hope everyone is ok at home
Lots of Love
Fiona and Tom
