First day in Kakadu was in Jabiru. Not much there other than a pool and a great bakery. Next day we checked out Bowali Visitor Centre then headed to Madrugal campground for a 2-night stay and booked the Yellow River cruise for next morning departing at 6.45am. It was excellent and makes it clear why Kakuda deserves to be a world heritage-listed park. The birdlife was incredible as was the presence of numerous crocs. Bird in pic is the comb-crested jacana (Jesus bird 'cos it can walk on water).
Then it was off to Jim Jim Falls via a 4wd track and lots of corrugations. No falling water but still an impressive sight. Decided against going onto Twin Falls as a water crossing of .7 metres was required. Both cars survived the rough going so confidence is rising about the Cobourg trip! Back to camp and a much cooler day.
Next day we moved camp and visited Nourlangie Rock - best rock art I've seen and walked around a nearby billabong and met a large croc sunning himself on the edge!
Back to Jabiru to laze around and get ready for the trip to Cobourg Peninsula.
Had a look at the tidal water crossing we need to negotiate at the start of the trip - shouldn't be a problem if we time it right!
