Arrived in a very hot Cairns on Saturday and decided now was the time to start spending some money! Booked a massive east coast package for our trip south and managed to get ourselves a pretty good deal including amongst other things a boat trip out to the Great Barrier Reef.
After an early start & a hot walk (it was 27 degrees at 7 am!) we managed to get ourselves to the jetty and on the boat. An hour or so later and we were at Saxon Reef kitted out in some very flattering wetsuits and snorkelling gear. Have to say I wasn't very convinced as it just looked like we were about to dive off the back of the boat into the middle of the ocean but once we looked down it was like being in another world..
For some reason we got our own private tour guide who swam around at a hundred miles an hour gettting very excited about showing us things and hunting for a turtle. Very interesting and we saw some really cool stuff but were a little bit relieved when he left us to it ! It's actually very relaxing!
After lunch on the boat we had another reef to explore - even manage to find nemo! Was a really good boat we had loads of time to snorkel and even free entertainment on the way back!
Will post the photos v soon!
